The COVID-19 pandemic has drawn parallels to how we will address the climate crisis, and many of us have forged ahead in our work to prevent the worse climate change scenarios from becoming reality. Over the past several months, as the global community’s attention has been diverted to the health and wellbeing of our friends and family, the livelihood of our local communities, and economic recoveries, we’ve looked for some glimmer of hope and good news. - News April 6, 2020 Here's what is helping us cope with stay-at-home orders All Reserve staff are working from home in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and local and statewide public health and Governor offices. When we’re not working, we’re partaking in all the traditional stay-at-home activities including home workouts, cooking, streaming tv and movies, reading, facetiming, trying to learn a language, checking out home concerts from our favorite musicians, gardening, and more! - News December 18, 2019 Project aggregates and cooperatives help reduce cost and increase efficiency The cost of project development and verification can be a significant financial barrier for a carbon offset project, particularly smaller projects. - News July 10, 2019 Above Business as Usual: Offsets Now and Moving Forward Carbon offsets represent greenhouse gas emissions reductions that have been achieved through voluntary implementation outside of capped sectors as a result of the financial incentives provided by the carbon market. The role of offsets continues to be an important, but sometimes contentious, strategy for addressing climate change. As an important cost-containment mechanism for compliance programs, offsets bring much-needed flexibility to avoid excessive price increases, yet some jurisdictions such as California (and others) have limited their role and geographic reach. In voluntary markets, offsets continue to offer an array of options for companies seeking to mitigate beyond their own operations, yet there can be pushback on the choices made. As the world contends with opportunities and responsibilities to address climate change, offset developers, registries, and regulators are pushing forward the compliance and voluntary offset markets, including emerging market opportunities, development of new offset protocols, actions to increase market uptake of existing offsets, and education surrounding misconceptions about offsets. - News January 24, 2019 Infographic: Achieving Climate Benefits Through Improved Nitrogen Management In October 2018, the Climate Action Reserve Board of Directors approved the updated Nitrogen Management Project Protocol Version 2.0, which widens the applicability of the protocol to new crops, geographies, and nitrogen management practices. The protocol allows farmers to earn carbon offsets for achieving reductions in nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions through reductions in nitrogen fertilizer application and application of enhanced efficiency fertilizers on cropland. NACW 2019 takes place at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, an iconic LEED Gold-certified skyscraper in the heart of LA’s revitalized downtown. Standing at 934 ft. tall with a 295-foot spire, the tower is the tallest building west of Chicago. Read more →
